Ch 2: You Might Not Finish This Chapter

Well Pastor Chan really served it up in this chapter! The story of Stan was incredible ... and the legacy of Brooke literally took me to tears. But the big idea for me in this section was:

P. 44: "...When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God. Psalm 73"

Our society pushes intellect over faith - and I'm embarassed to admit how many times I've gotten "analysis paralysis" from desperately trying to think through a situation ... to understand it. That simply is not God's plan!

Father - please forgive my ongoing desire to find supernatural peace in my human understanding. Instead, may I find rest in your faithfulness.

How about you - - - what was your big idea?

  1. Pg. 47..."One moment, he was at a memeorial service saying to a crowd, "This is who Jesus is!" The next, he was before God hearing Jesus say, "This is who Stan Gerlach is!"

Wow! This one really spoke to me. My husband and I are reading this book together, and after I read this sentence out loud, I looked up from the book and we were both in tears. I forget sometimes that there is no shame in acknowledging Jesus. So what if someone thinks I am a "finatic"? After reading this part both Matt and I felt embarrased about how we sometimes leave Jesus out of heartfelt conversations with family and friends because we are afraid of "turning someone off". This made us both realize, that we NEED to acknowlede Him, and let him do the "turning on".

  2. Carolyn - that is so true! Stephanie Schoenhofer and I both talked about how unbelieveable it would be to confess Jesus one moment and see Him face to face in the next moment! Brought a ton of goose bumps just pondering it!!

  3. "Remember that in the movie of life, nothing matters except our King and God" (page 51).

God is the star of the part is so tiny that I don't even need my name mentioned in the credits!!

It is not about me BUT ALL ABOUT HIM!!

I must invest my life on Earth to glorify God!!!
    I Corinthians 10:31

  4. pg. 44-45 "The point of your life is to point to him. Whatever you are doing, God wants to be glorified, because this whole thing is His. It is His movie, His world, His gift."

So many times I DO get wrapped up in my own world, my own problems, etc. It is NOT about me and what I've been given IS truely a gift. I pray to be able to focus away from my own trials and put all that I have in God.
